OVERVIEW

The catch can draws out oil and water condensation from the crankcase gasses that would otherwise be drawn into the intake manifold. This prevents oil buildup in the intake, intercooler system walls, throttle body, and intake manifold. This effectively raises the octane, can increase engine performance from cleaner inlet air, and can lower hydrocarbon emissions. The closed system prevents unwanted oil vapors from entering into the cabin. Catch can kits include everything needed for a complete installation.

FLUID LOCK® CATCH CANS

In 2022, Radium Engineering implemented a revolutionary design change to the 7 fluid ounce standard catch can. An inherent problem always existed with typical catch cans when not serviced regularly. The fluid contaminants will eventually leave the reservoir pouring into the air intake system causing poor engine performance. To resolve this issue, Radium created the Fluid Lock® Catch Can. This contains a patented mechanism that prevents the reservoir from overfilling and traps the collected fluids until it is emptied.

FEATURES

  • Direct fitment with no drilling required
  • Large 10AN ORB inlet and outlet ports
  • 4AN ORB drain port
  • 2-step oil separation baffling
  • O-ring sealed dipstick
  • 7 fluid ounce capacity
  • Patented Fluid Lock® system

COLLECTION & EMPTYING

The rate that your catch cans will collect oil and moisture contaminants will vary from one individual vehicle to the next, so there is no set emptying interval. PCV catch cans tend to collect more than CCV catch cans. You should check the level of your catch can using the integrated dipstick starting at 3-4 weeks of driving and repeat as needed to determine how often they should be emptied based on what you see.

Catch cans can be emptied by unscrewing the lower reservoir and removing it from the vehicle to dump out, or in cases where there is available space under the catch can, the Petcock Drain Kit can be installed and used to drain them.

In cases where oil collection is excessive you may have to address an issue with the engine. The reasons a catch can will collect an excess of oil include

  • Excessive blowby from engine damage
  • Crankcase windage from an over-full oil level
  • Poor placement of breather ports and/or poor baffling inside breather ports
  • PCV valve not closing and leaking under heavy load

20-0728-FL PCV CATCH CAN KIT, NISSAN Z33 V35, VQ35DE

COMPATIBILITY

  • Nissan 350Z (Z33), excluding VQ35HR
  • Nissan Fairlady (Z33), excluding VQ35HR
  • Nissan Skyline (V35), excluding VQ35HR
  • Infiniti G35 (V35), excluding VQ35HR

The PCV catch can kit runs inline between the PCV valve and the intake manifold. When the intake manifold pressure is close to or greater than atmospheric pressure, the PCV "check" valve closes and, thus, this hose experiences no flow. Conversely, the PCV hoses will experience "metered" vacuum when the engine is idling, steady state cruising, and decelerating. This would normally draw unwanted crankcase vapor, unspent fuel, and oil sludge into the intake manifold immediately after a high load run. NOTE: No inline check valve is required since Radium catch cans are pressure sealed. This means a direct intake manifold connection is permitted.

The catch can mounts to the OEM power steering reservoir bracket. This kit traps unwanted "metered" crankcase vapor, unspent fuel, and oil sludge. It promotes clean filtered air back into the intake manifold.

INCLUDES

  • Baffled oil catch can
  • Nissan specific mounting bracket
  • AN adapter fittings and hose ends
  • Stainless steel hardware
  • Radium PCV hose

NOTES

  • The PCV catch can kit will not work with VQ35HR vehicles. They have a noncompatible P/S reservoir mount.
  • No extra inline check valve is required since Radium catch cans are pressure sealed.

20-0729-FL DUAL CATCH CAN KIT, NISSAN V35, VQ35DE/HR

COMPATIBILITY

  • Nissan Skyline (V35), excluding VQ35HR
  • Infiniti G35 (V35), excluding VQ35HR

The dual catch can consists of a PCV and a CCV catch can. The dual catch can bracket mounts in the front LH portion of the engine bay and is NOT compatible with the factory air box.

The PCV catch can runs inline between the PCV valve and the intake pipe. When the intake manifold pressure is close to or greater than atmospheric pressure, the PCV "check" valves close and, thus, this hoses experience no flow.

The CCV catch can runs inline between the crankcase vent (CCV) port and the intake pipe. At low loads, it experiences atmospheric pressure. However, when the engine is at high load (WOT), the line will experience high flow from the crankcase into the intake system. This would normally lead to oil and sludge accumulation in the air filter intake pipe. The CCV catch can captures this and promotes clean filtered air back into the intake.

INCLUDES

  • Baffled oil catch can (x2)
  • Nissan specific mounting bracket
  • AN adapter fittings and hose ends
  • Stainless steel hardware
  • Radium PCV hose

NOTE: Not compatible with OEM Nissan air filter box.
