OVERVIEW

Radium Engineering vent valves feature roll-over protection for fuel cells and gas tanks. The valves come in different varieties for all fill type applications; standard fill and quick-fill. Simply put, the larger the vent, the quicker the fuel cell can be filled.

20-0934 ROLL OVER VALVE, 12AN ORB TO 8AN MALE

This roll over vent valve comes standard in all FCST-X models and can be used for other fuel tanks that have 12AN ORB female threads. The large external 8AN male fitting is more than enough for all standard fuel filling. The 1-piece machined part is manufactured from billet 6061 aluminum and type-II anodized. Included is 1 ball valve, FKM O-ring, and a stainless steel retaining ring.

In case of an inverted accident in which the wheels are up-ended, the ball valve sinks sealing the vent. This safely prevents fuel from leaking out of the fuel cell vent line.

COMPATIBILITY

  • Radium FCST w/standard filler
  • Radium FCST-X with standard filler
  • Other tanks or cells with a 12AN ORB female threaded vent port and standard filler

Does not fit early 20-014x-xx series FCST. These only had 8AN ORB vent ports.

NOTES
  • The vertical height of at least one portion of the vent tubing (not included) should be positioned above the highest point of the fuel fill point
  • The valve can easily be disassembled for cleaning, inspection, and maintenance
  • The valve is compatible with all fuel types including alcohol fuels such as methanol and E85
  • This roll over valve comes standard on all Radium FCST units after August 2023
  • Can not be used with dry break fillers

20-0535 DSV 12AN ORB to 12AN Male Low Fill

"QUICK FILL" Dynamic Safety Valves must be used when adding the dry break refueling system to the FCST, FCST-X, or any filler with a 12AN ORB female threaded vent port. The 1-piece machined part is manufactured from billet 6061 aluminum and type-II anodized. The DSV determines when the tank is full when the upper sealing ball valve floats to the top shutting off the air (vent) source. This safely prevents fuel from traveling up and out of the fuel cell vent line. The DSV serves 2 main purposes, fuel fill shut off and roll over protection.

COMPATIBILITY

  • Radium FCST w/Dry Break Refueling System
  • Radium FCST-X w/Dry Break Refueling System
  • Other Cells with 12AN ORB Female Vent Port w/Dry Break Refueling System

The low fill DSV should be used with fuel cells that have a small footprint width x length and shorter height to the filler. This DSV will shut off venting sooner for those configurations to prevent overfilling.

The DSV should not be used with standard style fuel fillers. For that application see the rollover valve above

ROLL OVER PROTECTION

In case of an accident in which the wheels are up-ended, the the ball valve sinks sealing the vent. This safely prevents fuel from leaking out of the fuel cell vent line.

FUEL FILL SHUT OFF

Dry breaks are unique in that they seal the fill line during refueling. When the tank becomes full and the DSV valve shuts off the vent, a small amount of pressure will build in the fuel cell. This low air pressure is determined by the height of the dump can with respect to the lowest part of the fuel cell (a larger distance will result in higher head pressure). The dump can will begin to "chug". This is by design as it informs the operator that the fuel cell is full and the dry break can now be released. The residual air pressure will make its way out of the vented dry break receiver and permit the fuel level to rise slightly in the tank.

NOTES

  • The vertical height of the top (shut-off) ball in the dynamic safety valve should be positioned lower than the highest point of the fuel fill point.
  • The vertical height of at least one portion of the vent tubing (not included) should be positioned above the highest point of the fuel fill point.
  • These internally mounted DSVs are perfect for vented dry break receivers that do not pressurize.
  • The valves can easily be disassembled for cleaning, inspection, and maintenance.
  • The valves are compatible with all fuel types including alcohol fuels such as methanol and E85.

20-0935 DSV, 12AN ORB TO 12AN MALE, HIGH FILL

The high fill DSV should be used with fuel cells that have a larger footprint width x length and/or larger height to the filler. This DSV will shut off venting later than the low fill to allow more fuel in before shutting off. This can be beneficial for large cells where a small change in the fill level is much more fuel, and when a remote filler is much higher than the cell.

The DSV should not be used with standard style fuel fillers. For that application see the rollover valve above

20-1035 DSV VALVE EXTENSION ADAPTER

When installed with a DSV, this extension adapter will effectively move the air shut-off point higher in the system to allow even more fuel into the cell and fill neck before shutting off. For higher remote fill locations that need to maximize the amount of fuel that can be put into the cell, this is the perfect solution.

This will efficiently speed the refueling process by preventing dump can chugging before the cell is full. Radium DSV valves must be purchased separately.

NOTES

  • Any of the current Radium Engineering DSV valve offerings can be installed into this adapter to customize the shut-off point.
  • If fuel ever ejects from the dry break receiver vent (during or after refueling), the shut-off point is too high in the system.

20-0439 12AN ORB to 5-Bolt SAE Adapter

To use a Radium Engineering DSV on a very early model FCST that has 8AN ORB vent threads (20-014X-XX), this adapter can be used in the level sender location. A fuel level sender cannot be used with this adapter in place.

Use with part 14-0434 12AN ORB to 12AN Male fitting.

14-0434 12AN ORB TO 12AN MALE

This would be used if the external quick fill DSV needs to be remotely mounted off the fuel cell. It will secure directly into the 12AN ORB Vent Port on Radium fuel cell surge tanks.

It can also be used in conjunction with 20-0439 12AN ORB to 5-Bolt SAE Adapter for older FCST units.
